At Rudrakshaa Yogashala, our Yoga Basics class offers a grounded introduction to the core principles of yoga as passed down through classical Hatha traditions. Whether you are stepping onto the mat for the first time or seeking to reconnect with the roots of your practice, this class welcomes you into a gentle and mindful exploration of āsana (postures), prāṇāyāma (breathwork), and dhyāna (meditative awareness)
Your journey into the tradition of yoga begins here. Our foundational classes are a mindful introduction, designed to welcome you into a space where you can:

At the heart of yoga lies presence—and presence begins with a steady foundation. Our Yoga Basics class is a welcoming entry point into the traditional path of Haṭha Yoga, designed for those taking their first steps on the mat, returning after a break, or wishing to reconnect with the essentials of the practice.

Each session begins with Sūkṣma Vyāyām—subtle yogic joint movements that awaken the body, improve circulation, and increase awareness. These movements release stiffness from the joints and prepare the muscular and nervous systems for deeper practices, while establishing a sense of calm and focus from the very beginning.

We move into the classical Sūrya Namaskār (Sun Salutation), taught step by step to synchronize movement with breath. This sequence cultivates a beautiful balance between sthira (stability) and sukha (ease), fostering grace and body intelligence through mindful rhythm and repetition.

Foundational postures are introduced with detailed alignment cues, always respecting your unique body and experience. We cultivate steadiness and ease in each pose—from Tāḍāsana (Mountain) to Adho Mukha Śvānāsana (Downward-Facing Dog)—allowing you to build a confident and authentic practice. This personalized approach fosters inner balance and a deeper connection with your body’s own wisdom.
This practice is a supportive space to explore, ask questions, and listen inwardly, not a performance-based class. Our Yoga Basic classes are for anyone ready to explore yoga for the very first time, and a serene space for those returning to the mat after a break to reconnect with their inner rhythm. This class also offers essential groundwork for practitioners aiming to develop strength, increase flexibility, or prepare for more dynamic practices, building a solid base of alignment and breathing techniques.

The only downside is the layout. The only way in and out requires people to pass through the main studio during classes, and noise from the nearby resting area (chatting, laughing) can be distracting.Posted on Alicia AngTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The class was good — it was challenging and I managed to get a solid sweat in. However, the customer service could definitely be improved.Posted on Zheng Hui HoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. great space, friendly instructorPosted on Kalani UdaraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Unmukt bhartiya was greatPosted on D NATrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A truly kind, attentive and nurturing teacher offering authentic, traditional Indian-style yoga, exactly what I have been searching for after feeling disconnected from Westernized yoga classes. ✨🧡 Beyond the grounding practice, what stayed with me most was the genuine care shown off the mat. A true gem of a sanctuary in a heart of the city. ✨ The studio is cosy, which makes the classes feel personal and attentive.Posted on Niythiya MohanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Tried yoga for the first time ever. I was honestly mind blown when I could do shoulder stands unassisted and headstands almost unassisted. The small class size really helped, as the instructor was able to give hands on guidance and support. 🫶🏽Posted on Jolyn ChuaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Founder Rita is very kind and showed me around the new studio and explained what they were about. For the class I attended, even though was a basic inversion, instructor kindly tailored it to my level. I quite like the cosiness of the space and how it’s subdivided! Just a note that the mat maybe a tad too thin and sticky for shoulder stand to forward fold rolls up and down as i had quite a bad friction burn on my ass after 😅 😆 probably fine for normal vinyassa and hatha classes but if rolling up and down alot, a soft cushy and less sticky mat would be great!!Posted on jiyun yeomTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great session with calmness and serenity. Will come back soon.Load more
