TWISTS & Bends

Twists & Bends is a focused practice grounded in the principles of Hatha Yoga and Āyurveda, where movement becomes a tool for purification, balance, and internal space. In this class, we work with parivrtti (twisting) and vakraṇa (bending) postures to awaken the spine, stimulate digestion, and enhance the flow of prāṇa (vital life-force) through the entire system.

The session begins with sūksma vyāyāma (subtle warm-ups) to mobilise the joints and loosen deep-seated tension in the shoulders, spine, and hips. As the body prepares, we progress into a blend of traditional seated and standing twists that gently wring the torso, massaging internal organs, stoking agni (digestive fire), and encouraging detoxification through improved circulation and elimination.

Side bends (pārśva vakrana) and gentle forward folds are introduced to lengthen the spinal muscles, expand breathing capacity (śvāsa vistāra), and improve the functional range of motion (gati ksetra). These shapes also support the marma sthāna (vital energy points), gently stimulating the body’s subtle healing response.

Releasing the Spine and Rebalancing Energy

This class does not aim for intensity through effort, but through precision and awareness. With each movement led by conscious breathing (prāṇa saṅgati), the practice becomes a dialogue between breath and body — where movement is both an act of release and an invitation to stillness. Longer-held postures allow the nervous system to settle and the spine to reorganize from within.

You’ll experience enhanced meru sthiratā (spinal stability), a sense of internal spaciousness, and clearer energy flow — especially helpful if you suffer from sluggish digestion, postural fatigue, or tension from prolonged sitting.

Suitable for all levels, this class meets you where you are. Our small group format ensures that each participant receives personalized attention, with variations and props to support accessibility, safety, and depth. The intention is to help you reconnect with your body’s rhythms, align with your breath, and walk away feeling lighter, more mobile, and grounded
