INTRO TO BACKBENDS
Discover the life-changing benefits of backbending in this workshop-style class focused on opening your heart and enhancing spinal health. With careful guidance and intentional movements, you’ll activate Anahata (heart chakra) and Vishuddha (throat chakra), fostering a sense of bravery and elegance. This session is ideal for anyone looking to strengthen their spine, expand their heart, and release fear through the sacred practice of Urdhva Dhanurasana along with other uplifting postures.
INTRO TO BACKBENDS
The spine, often referred to as the Meru Danda, acts as a sacred bridge connecting the earthly and celestial aspects within us. Prāṇa, our vital life energy, flows along this central axis through the Suṣumnā Nāḍī, which is the main energy pathway that runs in alignment with the spine. Engaging in backbending poses stimulates this energy flow and activates important chakras such as Anāhata (the heart) and Viśuddha (the throat), fostering openness, self-expression, and emotional release.
In our Intro to Backbends class, we take a slow and mindful approach that combines clear instruction, breath awareness, and individualized adjustments. You will explore essential backbend poses like Ustrāsana (Camel Pose) and Urdhva Dhanurāsana (Wheel Pose), with modifications designed to accommodate your unique body type and experience level. The emphasis will be on developing strength and space from your spinal core instead of striving for excessive flexibility.

Awakening the Spine & Expanding Energy
Backbends often evoke profound feelings such as vulnerability, uncertainty, or emotional release by opening both the body and heart. In this class, we cultivate a safe and supportive atmosphere where you can approach these feelings with gentleness and mindfulness. You’ll learn to let go of tension while fostering inner strength (śakti), bravery, and confidence in your body’s wisdom and resilience.
